The event, hosted by the Free State Department of Education, will take place at the Bon Hotel in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, 7 December 2022.

Since its inception in 2010, the NSNP Best School Awards have been recognising the contribution and role that the school nutrition programme plays in improving the quality of learning in schools by providing a daily nutritious meal.

The awards are in recognition of the dedication of key role players such as school management teams, educators, school governing bodies and volunteer food handlers.

The program was implemented to improve the learning capacity among learners in the quintile 1-3 primary and secondary school (no school fees-school).

This is achieved by providing nutritious meals, that provide important micronutrients for mental and physical activity, allowing learners to function well, be alert and concentrate during lessons.

The program currently benefits 597 600 learners throughout the Free State province.

The winning school will receive kitchen equipment to the value of R275 000, including a gas water heating system, a double door fridge, stainless steel serving dishes and first aid kits.
