Public urged to drop off water in Kimberley─── HEIDRÈ MALGAS 11:18 Tue, 20 Dec 2022
The past few days have been dry for the residents of Kimberley in the Northern Cape with almost no running water for almost five days.
DA Councillor, Ockert Fourie, says residents are in desperate need of water and some are still without water. “The DA is working with the local community and businesses to help ease the burden experienced by residents,” he said.
In the meantime, Sol Plaatjie municipal spokesperson, Thoko Riet, has issued a statement saying the water supply has been reinstated in all areas, however, high-lying areas may still not have water or experience low pressure. This will improve during the course of the day.
“Reservoir levels are still low, and we may be required to shut down water in the evenings in order to replenish levels,” she said.
However, the DA still urges holidaymakers and motorists passing through Kimberley to please drop off containers of drinking water at the following drop-off points: the Puma Garage close to the airport on the N8, on the road to Bloemfontein; Horseshoe Motel on the N12 on the way to Cape Town, and the Shell Ultra City on the N12, or the Johannesburg Road.
