Maluti-a-Phofung experiences blackout | News Article

Thousands of households and businesses in the Maluti-a-Phofung (MAP) Local Municipality in the Free State have been without electricity for about two weeks now.

It is alleged that there have been disagreements between the municipality and the power utility Eskom.

However, speaking to OFM News Wednesday morning, the MAP spokesperson, Thabo Kessah, said: "After MAP lawyers submitted urgent court papers last week, Eskom lawyers have responded by committing to repairing and restoring power within 4 to 5 days."

Kessah says the court paper reads:

"As a result of the above, writer's instructions are to propose the following on an interim basis pending the finalisation of your application:

A. That your client agree to remove the matter from the urgent court roll with no order as to cost and/or for the cost to stand over for later adjudication;

B. That writer's client commences with the restoration and repair process.

C. That your client agrees to make a circuit breaker available to the writer's client for testing and to commence with the restoration and repair process."

The affected businesses and households have experienced this blackout for almost two weeks now.
