Premier Sisi Ntombela says that she hopes to learn from other countries to once again make Free State the bread basket of the country.

She cummunicated this during her discussions with two delegates from neighbouring countries.

On Monday 9 January, Ntombela met with the Consul-General of Lesotho, Likhapa Sediane, and the ambassador of Angola to South Africa, Filomana Delgado, to deliberate on the agricultural sector, cross border crime, especially with regards to stock theft, illegal miners and undocumented Basotho nationals in the province.

In her statement, Ntombela says Sediane and Delgado stressed the importance of agriculture in general and farming in particular. She says both delegates informed her how the agriculture sector is thriving in their respective countries.

“Our hope is to visit both Lesotho and Angola in the near future to observe how they are able to get it right so that we apply what we would have learned to our province, to once again make Free State the bread basket of the country,” said Ntombela.

On Saturday 7 January 2023, two Lesotho nationals were arrested after they were found with an unlicensed firearm following a roadblock on the R702 at Dewetsdorp. Free State police spokesperson, Mahlomola Kareli, explained that a vehicle was stopped and searched and a Magnum .22 firearm with 8 live rounds were discovered, hidden under the carpet at the back seat.

Two Lesotho nationals and another man, who is allegedly from Theunissen, were arrested for possessing unlicensed firearms.
