Parents challenged to discipline their children─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:46 Thu, 19 Jan 2023
The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, Makhotso Sotyu, has called on parents to take responsibility for their children’s bad behaviour.
While she was about to hand out eco-desks, school shoes, sanitary packs, as well as gardening equipment and trees at the Boaramelo Combined School in Jagersfontein on Wednesday 18 January 2023, Sotyu said parents should stop blaming teachers for their children’s bad behaviour and rather start to be more responsible.
She said most learners have now succumbed to alcohol and other drugs, which also lead to their mischievous behaviour in school and society.
Sotyu reminded the Mayor of the Kopanong Local Municipality, government officials, learners, and other dignitaries about the event where 21 teenagers aged between 13 and 18 lost their lives while consuming alcohol at the Enyobeni tavern in the Eastern Cape. This, after stating that parents have to instil discipline in their homes.
