Free State school 'unfinished, falling apart' | News Article

The DA conducted an oversight visit at the Tshehetso Primary School in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality after reports that the project of building the school had been dormant for several months.

According to a DA press release, the project began in 2018 and was scheduled to be completed in 2021. "Workers were relieved in July 2022 and asked to return in September. Unfortunately, construction has been further delayed, with no work completed to date. There are currently only two security personnel on the construction site.

"Because of the constant rain and harsh weather conditions. Some of the abandoned materials and incomplete structures have already begun to deteriorate. The structure has deteriorated to the point where it must be rebuilt.

"The project funds have been squandered on an unfinished school. The municipality's mismanagement has deprived students of an education. The unfinished school may necessitate an extension of the building contract or even the hiring of a new contractor to finish the school. It will also necessitate the replacement of some building materials. This will result in more funds being allocated to the school's overall development. That is money that could have been used to improve service delivery in Nala (Bothaville and Wesselsbron)."
