Police arrest man for dagga on accident scene─── 07:11 Fri, 27 Jan 2023
The driver of a truck was arrested after he was found with bags of dagga at an accident scene on the N1 highway close to the Gariepdam in the Free State.
According to Free State police spokesperson, Mahlomola Kareli, the incident happened on Tuesday, 24 January 2023 when one truck allegedly rear-ended another on the highway. Members of the Gariepdam police received a distress call and on arrival, they found paramedics attending to the driver, who suffered slight injuries.
Further investigations into the cargo revealed that part of it was bags of dagga worth an estimated R2 million.
The suspect, the 33-year-old driver of the truck, was arrested for dealing in dagga and will appear on Tuesday 31 January 2023 at the Gariepdam Magistrate's Court for a formal bail application.
The circumstances that led to the accident are also under investigation.
