Free State municipal workers possibly paid later─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:35 Fri, 24 Feb 2023
Workers of another ailing Free State municipality have been informed to brace themselves for delayed wages this month.
This was after a letter was sent to workers at the Letsemeng Local Municipality by their Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Sithembile Tooi. The letter revealed that the municipality has a salary bill of about R3.6 million and has just under R1.47 million in its bank account.
Tooi explained that there is a possibility that the salaries for February 2023 may be paid late due to these financial constraints. However, plans are afoot to pay workers.
He detailed that the municipality is expecting a grant from National Treasury and if the grant is paid, salaries will be transferred soon to be available on 24 or 25 February 2023. Tooi said if the grant is not transferred and the municipality is unable to raise the needed R2.2 million, they will inform workers of the date when the salaries will be paid.
