North West floods: Lehari cautions motorists─── 12:51 Fri, 24 Feb 2023
The North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, has encouraged motorists and road users to be more cautious on the road, especially in parts of the province that experience flooding due to heavy rainfall.
Heavy rainfall has caused floods in areas such as Bloemhof, Orkney, and Potchefstroom, where dams are filled and extra caution needs to be exercised.
Lehari also pleaded with parents not to allow children to swim in small dams, puddles, and quarries.
The South African Weather Services has warned that more rainfall is expected this weekend.

Departmental spokesperson Alpheus Koonyaditse said law enforcement and road safety officers will be visible on roads, ensuring that motorists reach their destination safely and accident-free.
"Anybody on the roads must approach water areas with extreme caution as the situation normally contributes to road accidents. In other parts of the province, motorists will experience misty weather conditions, and it is important for them to drive with their headlights on to be visible," said Lehari.
