The Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality in the Free State said the Harrismith substation will no longer be switched off for maintenance this weekend.
According to the municipal spokesperson Thabo Kessah, maintenance work was postponed until further notice due to the unavailability of the contractor.
One of the disgruntled residents David Mabasa said they have been without electricity for almost a month and their businesses are collapsing.
"I don't understand why the municipality wants to keep us in the dark, they just want us to lose our jobs and end up struggling," said Mabasa.
The areas that would have been affected include Harrismith, Wilge Park, Westerson, and Lotusville.
