Magalies Water reduces supply to North West residents over charge dispute─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:40 Sat, 18 Mar 2023
Water utility Magalies Water in the North West has informed residents in the greater Rustenburg area of its decision to reduce its bulk water supply to its customer Rand Water, to 55 megalitres a day.
Magalies Water spokesperson, David Magae, said this is the result of an unresolved dispute with Rand water.
He says contractually Magalies Water is obliged to provide Rand Water with 55 megalitres a day.
However, Magae says Magalies Water has been providing Rand Water with bulk water in excess of the bulk supply agreement.
"This has resulted in an additional cost to Rand Water, as Magalies Water’s bulk customer for receiving additional water supply, over and above what has been agreed to contractually.
Consequently, as result of the current dispute over demand charges and continued supply of water volumes that exceed the agreed quota, Magalies Water has resolved with effect from Friday 17 March to reduce bulk water supply to Rand Water to 55 ML/day. This will be implemented until such a time when there is an agreement between Magalies Water and Rand Water regarding demand charges. We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause," Magae added.
