Reddersburg police bust man for 16 bags of abalone─── 05:31 Fri, 24 Mar 2023
Members of the Xhariep District Operational Command Centre (DOCC) arrested a 26-year-old man on the N6 road after they found 16 refuse bags filled with abalone in his car.
On Wednesday, 22 March 2023 the Xhariep DOCC members were conducting a vehicle check point on the N6 passing through Reddersburg in the Free State. At about 07:45 they stopped a sedan with Eastern Cape registration.
Upon searching the car, the police found 16 bags filled with more than 700 abalone. The driver, who was travelling from Gqebhera in the Eastern Cape and heading to Bloemfontein, was apprehended.
Police spokesperson Martin Xuma said he is expected to appear before the Reddersburg Magistrate's Court facing a charge of unlawful possession of abalone.
Police also confiscated the vehicle.
