North West municipal director arrested for fraud─── 12:24 Tue, 28 Mar 2023

The former director of Moses Kotane Local Municipality is scheduled to appear before the Mogwase Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of fraud.
This comes after her arrest on Monday by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation. North West Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, said the charges relate to her alleged simultaneous occupation of two government positions without her employer's knowledge.
Rikhotso said in March 2022, the former director applied for special leave with her annual leave set to begin two months later. However, the suspect allegedly reported sick and did not return to work.
Meanwhile, the municipality appointed someone to act in her position during her absence, which caused the municipality a loss of over R 1 million.
Rikhotso added it was later revealed that the suspect was employed by another government department during the period she had reported sick and also received a salary from the municipality during her time of absence.
