Young Free State mom delivers her eighth child─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:56 Fri, 31 Mar 2023
A 28-year-old mother from the Gelukdeel Farm outside Bloemfontein in the Free State has safely delivered her eighth child.
According to the provincial health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, the 28-year-old delivered her eighth child in the early hours of Thursday 30 March 2023 inside the Obstetric Ambulance whilst en route to the hospital.
He explained that the Obstetric Ambulances are specially equipped and dedicated ambulances which provide quality treatment and care to both mother and child. Mvambi added that this birth will be classified as a Born Before Arrival (BBA).

The mother informed officials of the Health Department that she called the ambulance as soon as she experienced signs that the child might be born soon. Healthcare workers responded immediately. When asked how she knew that she was supposed to contact an ambulance instead of seeking assistance around her, she said she received valuable health education from an awareness campaign done by the department.
Mvambi said the Health MEC, Mathabo Leeto, applauded the immediate response of the Obstetric Ambulance and further sent well wishes to the mother and the baby.
Mvambi added that the baby and the mother were transported to the Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital for further medical care and will be providing counselling on family planning, the dangers of many pregnancies, and the care of children.
