Residents in large parts of Bloemfontein have been without power since the early hours of Sunday morning.

Centlec has since confirmed that the blackout is the result to the 132kV North 2 line that has tripped at Harvard DC.  No estimated restoration time can be given now.

Distribution centres affected include Tempe, Bayswater, Dan Pienaar, Naval Park, Clover and Maselspoort.

Last month Bloemfontein was left in the dark following a system failure at the same substation. Centlec’s Lele Mamatu informed the public at the time its technicians had worked the entire night to ensure that power was restored.

Provincial Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, confirmed services were not disrupted during the power outage as safety measures were already in place to ensure that patients’ lives were not at risk.
