Mangaung workers vandalised headquarters – VIDEOS─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 16:04 Tue, 11 Apr 2023
About 400 workers of the Mangaung Metro Municipality brought activities in the Bram Fischer Building in Bloemfontein to a standstill this morning.
It’s alleged that workers barricaded the building to express their dissatisfaction over the non-payment of their salaries. A video doing the rounds on social media, shows angry workers invading, littering, and vandalising the so-called Glass Palace to express their frustrations.
The DA’s ward 23 councillor, Tjaart van der Walt, stated that police went to the scene to maintain order. Security personnel at the metro did not allow residents to enter the building.

Last month, members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) and the Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (Imatu) disrupted Bloemfontein after the metro failed to pay their salaries. Regional chairperson of Samwu, Jimmy Motse, said some workers were paid a portion of their salaries, while others received nothing. No communication was offered to them. An enquiry has been sent to the metro for comment.
