Delegates meet Ottosdal protesters amid continued road closure─── 14:06 Tue, 11 Apr 2023
Delegates have arrived to address the concerns of residents amid the ongoing road closure of the R507 at Ottosdal in the Free State.
The mayor of the Tswaing Local Municipality, Nora Mahlangu, the Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament (MP), Carin Visser, and a representative from the North West Department of Public Works were among the delegates.
Community members aren't satisfied with the hiring process of the project, alleging councillors did not follow the process in hiring the first ten people.
Traffic and businesses have been affected by the protest, with over 200 people seen gathered at the road intersection.
Speaking to OFM News, Visser said political interference creates a war zone, citing it has always been clear that people are unhappy from the moment the project was handed over.
ANC Youth League member Motshegwa Gontse said they are calling for correct ways to be followed to benefit the community at large.
The delegates are currently in negotiations with the seven representatives elected by the community, taxis in the area had not been operational since the morning.
Members of Mahikeng Public Order Policing and traffic officials are monitoring the situation.
