Mother and baby found dead, husband missing─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:45 Thu, 20 Apr 2023
The Free State police have started a search for a man who is believed to be the husband of a woman who was discovered dead with her baby boy in Welkom.
According to police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng, the neighbour from Katanga discovered the two bodies on Sunday 16 April 2023 at about 12:15. They were discovered in the industrial area of Welkom, not far from where they are staying.
Thakeng said the bodies were identified by next-of-kin as those of Zimbabwean national Ratiso Dhlengwayo (22) and her child, Progress Mhofu, who was just three months old. They were both certified dead on the scene as both their throats were slit. Thakeng added the police are investigating two cases of murder while the husband is nowhere to be found.
“Anyone with information that may lead to the whereabouts of the husband is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Modupe Thekiso of the Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes Unit on cellphone number 083-929-8149 or the Crime Stop number 08600-10111,” he concluded.
