An 80-year-old farmer was hospitalised after being pinned under heavy machinery for days.
He lives alone at Martindale Farm on Sanctuary Road in Thornhill in the Eastern Cape.
Fellow farmers began to worry when they did not see or hear from him for a week.
On 19 June 2023, police responded to a call from a concerned neighbour who was worried about the farmer.
The police from Thornhill forced open the door into the house where they found the 80-year-old man in a room.
“The farmer got into trouble when a heavy machine fell on him. The machine pinned his arm and he couldn’t get free,” said the police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu.
An ambulance was called and he was taken to a hospital in Gqeberha.
