Matlosana councillor accused of rape remains in custody─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:18 Tue, 27 Jun 2023
An alleged case in Orkney against the Matlosana councillor, Tebogo Sepale (43), has been postponed for further investigations and a bail application.
The Orkney Magistrate's Court on Monday postponed the case against Sepale, who has been charged with statutory rape, to 7 July 2023.
North West National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, said Sepale’s attorney appeared on his behalf as he was absent from court for unknown reasons. He added that the state intends to oppose his bail application.
“The state is awaiting the conclusion of investigations to possibly add more charges against the accused. He is facing eleven provisional charges, two for statutory rape, three for the violation of a child, one for manufacturing pornographic material, four for rape and one for sexual intimidation,” said Mamothame.
Sepale’s court appearance emanates from a police report which revealed that a crimen injuria case was registered on Friday afternoon 5 May 2023. The suspect had allegedly shared a nude picture of his private parts with the complainant.
According to the police, a second and separate case, accusing the same suspect of two counts of statutory rape, was laid on Saturday evening 6 May 2023 by the parents of two boys, both aged 15. This after a recorded video of a man having sexual intercourse with a boy went viral on social media platforms, including WhatsApp.
Mamothame said Sepale will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
