Police spokesperson Peter Kareli said the white Hyundai Tuscon with GP license plates was reported stolen from a popular pub in Westdene.

“The victim claimed her bag was stolen – which contained her car keys – while she was engaged in conversation with two women, an act distracting her so that another individual could snatch her handbag,” he said.

He added that within a span of six hours from reporting the theft, the police, in a joint effort with a vehicle tracking company, discovered the said car parked in the courtyard of a tavern in Mangaung.

Two individuals were apprehended, leading to the subsequent arrest of three more culprits, including the two women. Items belonging to the victim were also recovered in the process.

All five detainees are scheduled for appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possessing an alleged stolen vehicle.
