The Freedom Front Plus in the Northern Cape has confirmed that allegations that surgeries could not be performed at the Robert Sobukwe Hospital in Kimberley due to water shortages are untrue.

Concerns were raised that essential operations could not be performed due to water shortages. The leader of the FF Plus in the Northern Cape, Wynand Boshoff, said the party visited the hospital and determined that all operating theatres were in working condition.

“Rumours of water shortages at the Robert Sobukwe Hospital in Kimberley, which would be life-threatening for patients, appear false. The hospital is doing a lot to ensure enough water. After the party was informed that two women requiring C-sections could not be operated on, it asked acting CEO Dr Vincent Tsolo for clarification. Tsolo assured the FF Plus that all treatment could continue and invited the party to visit the hospital complex itself,” Boshoff explained.

Boshoff stated that one of their councillors, Kobus van den Berg, visited the hospital within an hour and was taken through the facility by a medical doctor and head of the department. It was clear on this visit that while there may be water challenges at the hospital, all theatres had water.
