A Free State man who used his R350 unemployment relief grant to establish a vegetable business was provided with tools that will assist him in maintaining his business.
The founder of Hlokomela Dijo Ditswa Mobung vegetable garden at the Winnie Mandela Clinic in Botshabelo, Pule Mostumi, is one of the unemployed people in the province who saw it fitting to start a garden project that would assist in kick-starting his business.
Motsumi, who is from G section in the sprawling township, used his R350 social grant to start his business of establishing a vegetable garden at the back of the clinic. Motsumi explained how his love for agriculture was enough to approach the clinic and request to use available land inside the yard to establish the garden.

“Being unemployed was tough, but I never dropped my head. I received the R350 Social Relief of Distress grant and decided to buy seeds with it. That was by far the best decision I took because it will bear great results very soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, Free State Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana, alongside MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Saki Mokoena, handed over a wheelbarrow, hose pipe and other gardening tools to assist Motsumi with his garden. Mostumi expressed his satisfaction with the gesture shown by the provincial government and the clinic. He stated this would go a long way in assisting his business of selling and giving some of his vegetables to disadvantaged families.
Motsumi further said he approached five families in Botshabelo who have allowed him to use available land in their yards to start vegetable gardens.
