A soccer field in Clocolan (now officially Hlohlolwane) has been damaged by sewage spillage.

DA Constituency Head Jafta Mokoena said he was returning from a meeting with activists in the town last week when he stumbled upon an abandoned soccer field. People living in the neighbourhood told him the sport facility is no longer used because of the sewage spillages. Apparently the sewage has been there for a long time.

Mokoena requested a Mantsopa DA councillor to take up the matter in council but no council meeting has been held since. Their next step is to write a letter to the municipal manager or council to establish why the problem has not been addressed.

He added sewage spillage is a huge challenge in the province, which poses a health risk to residents. Water can easily be containment, leading to diseases.

OFM News has sent Mantsopa an enquiry.

Recently, in Bloemfontein a woman (83) was living in a yard surrounded by sewage. Frank Mkhuane informed OFM News that his aunt has been living under such conditions since last year, compromising her health. Mkhuane said he had knocked on several government and municipal doors to ask for help, but in vain.

After OFM News reported on the 83-year-old Elizabeth Alam Mkhuane’s living conditions, Benedict Ngonela, owner of Bene-Tech Plumbing Services, reached out to the family. He fixed the issue that was causing the sewage spillages in the woman’s yard at his own expense.

A week later, the 83 year old died. Frank said she left her yard clean after long suffering to get it clean. The cause of death is unknown to OFM News.
