Police spokesperson Josephine Rani said it was on Tuesday (8/8) when the police in the area were summoned to the Engen Garage in Kroonstad. Upon arrival they found a group of community members assaulting a naked man. The information received by the police stipulates two teenagers were cutting wood when they heard a child screaming.

Out of curiosity, the two teenagers went to check and allegedly noticed the suspect was raping the toddler. The teenagers decided to call the community for assistance and contacted the police. The man was arrested on the spot and the toddler was taken to Boitumelo Hospital for medical attention. 

The suspect appeared before the Kroonstad Magistrate's Court on Thursday (10/8) and his case was postponed to next Thursday (17/8) for a bail application.
