Schools from the five districts of the Free State come together for this festival of the arts to participate in drama, dance, and poetry. 

Moritlhwana Schools Art Festival 2023 (MOSAFE) was founded in 2012. This year’s festival venue is the Makeleketla Community Hall in Winburg.

The festival takes place from today till Sunday.

“Our main aim was to keep the youth away from the streets by putting them together and utilising the time they have after school for dance, music, poetry, and drama,” said co-founder of MOSAFE Tumi Mkhondo.

The theme for this year’s festival is: Let us bring our culture home.

The festival grew from five schools that participated to 35 schools. All five districts in the province are participating.

“We see the learners learning from each other and developing in their schools each year. They now take rehearsals seriously because they have a beautiful competing spirit.”

“The community has been supportive because they have seen how this initiative has been productive in the lives of the scholars,” said Mkhondo.

Dates: 27 September – Carnival

28 September – Workshops and Miss Moritlhwana (pageant)

29 September – Drama competitions

30 September – Dance Competitions and Poetry

1 October – Soccer
