"Suspended ANC councillor in Matlosana expected back in the Orkney Magistrate's Court on Friday for a formal bail application.”

The state wants the case against a suspended Matlosana ANC Councillor to be transferred to the High Court. Tebogo Sepale (43) faces 11 charges, including two for statutory rape, three for the violation of a child with consent, one for manufacturing pornographic material, four for rape and one for sexual intimidation.

He is expected back in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Friday (17/11) for a formal bail application, said North West NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame. The defence attorney had been expected to prepare a bail affidavit and provide it to the state by 8 November for the state to prepare its papers in preparation for the bail hearing.

He said the state intended to ask the Director of Public Prosecutions to transfer the case to a higher court for pretrial conferencing, as investigations have been concluded.

Sonke Gender Justice slammed the ANC for continuing to pay the salary of the accused. The ANC reiterated that its hands are tied in removing Sepale from its list of deployees, as it can only be done once he is granted bail.
