The IEC voter registration is entering its second day on Sunday, with minor issues reported across the Free State. IEC Free State spokesperson, Mmathabo Rasengane said there were two protest incidents reported – one in Botshabelo, Mangaung, and Maluti-a-Phofung in Ward 28, Phuthaditjhaba, where there were community protests due to a lack of electricity.
Sunday is the last day this weekend for eligible voters to register their names on the IEC roll for the 2024 National Elections to be contested by different political parties. Rasengane said the commission opened its 1 582 voting stations with their registration staff managing to attend to over 64 200 electorates.

“At 19:00, 1 578 registration stations were closed. A total of 9 094 new registered voters, 36 342 re-registered in the same voting district, 18 752 moved the voting districts. Of these voters, those from 16-18 years were 350, 18-21 years were 4 064, and above 21 were 59 774,” she said.
In terms of gender, 35 219 were women and 28 969 were men.
"Registration continues on Sunday the 19th from 08:00 till 17:00. Voters are urged to take this opportunity to exercise their democratic rights by registering to participate in the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.0
“Self-registration platforms may also be used during this weekend and beyond on registertovote.elections.org.za," Rasengane added.
