Seven vehicles were handed over by the MEC of Transport to support the enforcement of traffic laws and guarantee that everyone arrives alive. The Arrive Alive campaign was launched on the N12 weighbridge in Kimberley on Friday (8/12).

This campaign was attended by various stakeholders such as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mmantsheke Lekhele, the Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Johan Bean, Labour unions, SANTACO, and the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Nomandla Bloem.

“The SAPS will have more boots on the ground and a multi-disciplinary zero-tolerance approach will be the order of the day over the festive season,” said Lekhele.

At the launch, a pledge was signed by all heads from SAPS, Transport Safety, and Liaison, and all traffic chiefs in the province.

The second part of the event proceeded at the N12 roadblock, where police interacted with drivers and distributed marketing materials and safety tip booklets about keeping safe and reaching their destinations alive.

“The roadblock was activated from 10:00 to 12:00 and achieved several successes as members stopped and searched 131 vehicles, 380 people and issued 8 traffic fines to the value of R 6250,” said Bloem.

Throughout the holiday season and beyond, roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints will be in place to guarantee road safety, as well as to get rid of any criminal activity and the likelihood of accidents on our roadways said Bloem.
