“To share my story fifteen years later with St. Andrew’s boys is a great honour.”

A South African motorcycle racer has encouraged the pupils of his former school to follow their dreams, whatever they may be.

Charan Moore (33) shared his Dakar experience with the St. Andrew’s School on Wednesday morning (13/3), and donated his helmet and T-shirt to the school.

He matriculated from the Bloemfontein school 15 years ago and decided to come back and inspire the boys, telling them what path to take to become a motorbike racer.

“I’ve brought my Dakar bike today to show the kids what it is all about and share my experiences. This was my third Dakar and winning the Malle Moto Class, where I had to do everything myself from setting up my campsite to servicing and fixing the bike,” said the 2023 Dakar Rally Champion.

“When people ask me how I could afford to go to the Dakar Rally, which is very expensive, I tell them once the racing bug bites you, it bites real hard. But now I have sponsors which makes it better.”

The man from Ladybrand said things are taking off in his rally career and now he is moving on to a team, that’s why he wanted to share that with the children and to inspire them to follow their dream even if it is not motorbiking.

Moore attended the school from Grade 8 onwards and spoke about the character-building at Saints and the ability to follow his dream.

One of the Grade 5 learners, a motocross biker, introduced Moore at the chapel and afterwards, students could take pictures outside with him and his bike. He also revved the bike a bit much to the excitement of the learners.
