“Supporting old age homes embodies the school’s commitment to serving the community and addressing the needs of the vulnerable.”

St. Patrick’s CBC Kimberley has hosted a fundraiser to buy wheelchairs and extra goods for old age homes in its community.

“Supporting old age homes embodies the school’s commitment to serving the community and addressing the needs of the vulnerable,” said St. Patrick’s CBC head of marketing and communications Nina Seaward.

The school regularly hosts fundraisers intending to give back to the community as part of its high school prefects’ responsibilities.

In addition to the wheelchairs, the handover included blankets and boxes filled with instant soup. These items were provided to support the old age homes in Kimberley, ensuring that residents have additional comfort and nourishment.

“Care is a core value of our school, and embodying this is very important for us as a school. As part of our High School Prefect Leadership, we have a head of ethos, Grade 12 learner Tshiamo Shuping. He, along with his peers, identify initiatives and causes to support.”

The school decided to donate wheelchairs due to the dire need in the community and because few can afford them.

“This initiative not only aimed to improve the quality of life for the elderly residents but also to instill a sense of community service and compassion in the pupils who participated in raising funds for this cause.

“It sought to bring together the community, school representatives, and the church to celebrate and encourage charitable actions,” said Seaward.

These initiatives align with the school's Christian-based teaching and assist learners in developing a sense of ethical leadership and learning to have a positive impact on their community.
