“The closures aim to facilitate better traffic flow and minimise disruptions for residents and motorists.”
The Mangaung Metro has announced a series of road closures ahead of the court appearance of Ace Magashule’s former PA in the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on Monday (12/8).
The road closures are part of preparations to manage traffic and ensure smooth proceedings at the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court.
‘Despite an agreement to voluntarily surrender, Cholota failed to comply’
Moroadi Cholota (37), who arrived in the country on Thursday (8/8) after she was extradited from the United States, is set to appear in court for her involvement in the controversial asbestos roofing case. Cholota faces serious charges including fraud, corruption, and money laundering in connection with the misappropriation of R255 million in state funds.

Mangaung Metro spokesperson Qondile Khedama has informed residents that President Brand Street and Peet Avenue will be closed around the magistrate’s court during the proceedings. Khedama urged the public to use alternative routes and apologised for any inconvenience caused by these measures.
The asbestos roofing project, intended to address hazardous asbestos issues in public housing, has been plagued by allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement. The case has attracted significant attention due to the large sum of money involved and the high-profile nature of the accused.
The Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase confirmed that Cholota’s extradition from the USA was authorised by American authorities on July 31. She returned to South Africa on Thursday (8/8), where she was processed by Hawks detectives before her court appearance. Cholota had been previously implicated in the case, with a warrant of arrest issued against her in 2021. Despite an agreement to voluntarily surrender, Cholota failed to comply, leading to her arrest abroad.

The R255 million asbestos case remains a key component of a broader investigation into corruption and financial misconduct within the Free State government. A total of 18 individuals, including five companies, are scheduled to stand trial in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein from April 15 to June 23, 2025.
It remains unclear whether Cholota will be allowed bail as other accused are out on bail.
