On 16 August, a wave of hope will sweep through Botshabelo’s Community Hall as the Christian Medical Fellowship of the UFS partners with Botshabelo Child and Family Services for a transformative community outreach event.

This impactful initiative, spearheaded by Sumé Delport and supported by Gareth Visser, along with 13 other dedicated individuals, is more than a one-day event – it is a heartfelt response to Botshabelo’s pressing physical, social, and spiritual needs.

The team is working tirelessly to create lasting, visible change in the lives of those most in need, offering support and helping to uplift the community.

Given Botshabelo residents’ continued reliance on Bloemfontein for many services, both the CMF and Botshabelo Child and Family Services are committed to building a long-term partnership with the community. “We believe it is essential to reach out and support this community, to strengthen and encourage them,” said Delport.

The upcoming event will offer a holistic approach to well-being, with tailored sessions for different age groups. The day will feature four focused seminars covering key topics identified by local social workers as highly relevant to daily life in Botshabelo.

Targeted sessions for holistic well-being

The programme will address health education, safety, social issues, spiritual growth, and self-defence, with children, teens, women, and men participating, explained Visser.

The outreach reflects the combined efforts of numerous professionals. In addition to committed medical students, the team consults with social workers, academics, and doctors to ensure that the information shared is accurate, practical, and easy to understand.

Geloofsentrum Universitas has offered generous support to this outreach initiative.

Beyond a once-off event – a long-term commitment

This partnership aims to provide sustained assistance to the Botshabelo community through ongoing outreach, contributions, and spiritual guidance. The goal is to uplift lives and create space for open conversations around challenges faced by the community.
