Breaking News: Cash-in-transit robbery on N8 near Bloemfontein─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 18:47 Thu, 03 Jul 2025

A cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery took place on the N8 road outside Bloemfontein, heading towards Botshabelo, near the Mandela View area early Thursday evening (3/7).
Preliminary reports indicated the CIT vehicle was targeted and blown up using explosives. The full extent of the damage and any potential injuries remained unclear on Thursday evening.
Free State police spokesperson Loraine Earle confirmed the incident. Law enforcement officers were on the scene, and other emergency services were also activated.
Acting provincial EMS manager Sidney Dywili said the N8 highway was closed due to the CIT heist incident.
Avoid the N8 highway
He called on motorists to take the following important actions when arriving near the scene:
- Yield to emergency vehicles responding to the scene.
- Exercise extreme caution if in the area.
- Avoid the N8 highway until further notice.
