President to address nation on allegations against Mchunu─── REFILWE BEKANE 10:37 Fri, 11 Jul 2025

Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation on Sunday (13/7).
This follows a public declaration by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lt Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, detailing claims against senior political and South African Police Service leadership, specifically Senzo Mchunu, Minister of Police.
Mkhwanazi, in a public media briefing, alleged that Mchunu has connections to criminal groups and interferes with police investigations into politically motivated murders.
The consequences have been immediate, with some political parties calling for prompt action and accountability.
Criminal offence
“This is a criminal offence under both common law and parliamentary legislation,” said Baxolile Nodada, Deputy Chief Whip of the DA, in a statement.
Ramaphosa, who was attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil, was also compelled to respond to the allegations.
“This is a matter of grave national security concern that is receiving the highest priority attention. It is vital that the integrity of the country’s security services is safeguarded and that the rule of law is affirmed,” he said.
Given its significance for national security, Ramaphosa has agreed to address this development upon his return from Brazil.
According to a statement released by the Presidency, the message will be broadcast and streamed on various platforms.
