The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) is hosting the highly anticipated Reja Buka Reading Festival Competition this week, running from 15 to 17 October, at the Bon Hotel in Bloemfontein.
The event marks the culmination of a province-wide literacy campaign aimed at boosting reading proficiency among young people. “The Reja Buka competition encompasses various reading programmes that aim to improve reading skills among school-going children from the age of 9-16 to inculcate the love for reading,” stated the department.
According to the department, the initiative aims to encourage children to understand the importance of reading and the enhancement of formal education, which contributes to improved academic achievements.

“Participants were expected to read a wide range of books, mainly fiction books, as the activities for the Reading Festival have been derived from these sources,” said the department
