Lichtenburg police have launched an urgent appeal to the public for assistance in locating a missing 17-year-old boy.

Letlhogonolo Daniel Matebele, a resident of Blydeville near Lichtenburg, has been missing for several weeks, leaving his family and the local community deeply concerned.

Letlhogonolo was last seen by his family on the night of Monday, 29 December. His parents said he was heading to bed for the night. However, when the family checked on him later, he was nowhere to be found.

A coordinated search operation commenced shortly after the report was filed, spanning across the Lichtenburg area and surrounding places, said police spokeperson Sgt Kelebogile Morake.

The search is further complicated by the teenager’s medical condition. His parents have informed the police Matebele suffers from epilepsy and is considered mentally unstable.

He is slender build, but due to the sudden nature of his disappearance, his parents have struggled to recall exactly what clothing he was wearing. The police ask anyone who may have seen him or who has knowledge of his whereabouts to contact investigating officer Sgt Alpheus Moremi on 079 080 7284 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Anonymous tip-offs can be submitted through the MySAPS App, which is available on all smartphones.
