Welkom police seek help to ID body in dilapidated building─── REFILWE BEKANE 17:00 Fri, 27 Feb 2026
Welkom police have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of an unidentified body.
On Tuesday (10/2) at around 13:00, a member of the public alerted the local police after a discovery of the body at the dilapidated Amogelang Mall. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the lifeless body of a man floating in the water.
The deceased’s body was in an advanced state of decomposition. The man was wearing a green hooded top, a grey T-shirt, and black track pants, but he had no shoes on.
He is described as dark-skinned with several distinct tattoos on his chest and left arm.
Police are appealing to any members of the community who may have information that could assist in identifying the man or locating his next-of-kin. Contact W/O Tseliso Nthaba on 083 525 3771. Alternatively, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or provide information anonymously through the MySAPS app.
In a separate and ongoing investigation, authorities are also seeking public assistance in locating Nonceba Notuku. The 14-year-old was officially reported missing on Tuesday (24/2) from her residence in Phase 4.

Apparently Nonceba was last seen at her home at around 23:00 on 18 February. Reports indicate that a disagreement happened between the teenager and her mother shortly before they were meant to retire for the night.
Following this argument, Nonceba reportedly packed her school shoes and some of her clothing before leaving the house. She left her cellular phone behind, which has made any direct communication or digital tracking impossible for her family.
After the family and friends conducted an unsuccessful search for several days, her mother opened a missing persons file. While police tracing efforts remain active, there are currently no leads on her whereabouts.
No waiting period
The police would like to remind the community that there is no waiting period required to report a person as missing, as immediate action is often vital for a safe return.
Anyone who may have information leading to the safe return of Nonceba may contact Det. Sgt Von Willing on 073 575 9303. Information can also be shared via the Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or send an anonymous tip via the MySAPS app.
