Refilwe Marumo writes practical guide to career recovery─── REFILWE BEKANE 16:30 Fri, 06 Mar 2026
“The minute you encounter resistance, just know you are very close to a breakthrough.”
Author and entrepreneur Refliwe Marumo shares her story of recovery and purpose ahead of the launch of her book, Guided: Beyond the Paycheck, scheduled for 18 March at Exclusive Books in Loch Logan Waterfront, Bloemfontein.
This work follows Marumo’s journey through a period of professional and personal crisis. The narrative focuses on the transition from a state of survival to a life of fulfilment.
Severe burnout resulted in her withdrawal from professional and social life. She spent two years in a state of deep depression before beginning the recovery process.
“The journey from rock bottom to this book launch represents a major victory.”
Marumo says daily walks with a family dog played a primary role in the initial stages of recovery. These outdoor activities provided the fresh air and perspective needed to begin healing from the trauma of business betrayal. Over time, these small steps led to the clarity required to start the writing process.

The book launch is scheduled for 18 March at Loch Logan Waterfront.
She focuses on the potential impact the narrative could have on others facing similar struggles. “Overcoming the silence of burnout is the first step toward finding a new purpose.”
The book launch aims to help others identify when they are on a career path that does not align with their identity. She discovered her purpose was centred on teaching and guiding others rather than chasing industry awards.
The story encourages readers to listen to their inner voices before reaching a point of total exhaustion. By sharing this story, she hopes to create a community of support for those navigating their own challenges. The focus remains on prioritising mental health and authentic living over corporate titles.
