The Bloemfontein Gymnastics Club is set to host a bingo night to raise funds for a new artistic floor.

The event on Friday (13/3) at the Sunflower hall on the Bloem showgrounds aims to replace the equipment used by athletes in various disciplines, including trampoline, parkour, and artistic gymnastics. If the target is met, the installation is planned for the second week of May, said coach and fundraiser coordinator Ben Arthur Stander.

“We’re planning to have a lot of fun. We have a bunch of prizes that (were) donated to us over the course of the last two weeks.”

Event details and activities

The fundraiser features five rounds of bingo and a series of lucky draws. PrIzes include vouchers for hair appointments, nail sessions, facials, and massages. Larger hampers and an auction for a carcass are also up for grabs.

A tuck shop and a cash bar will be provided. The club will offer a supervised play area for children within the gym hall at a fee of R50.

There is no dress code for guests, though an MC will lead the activities, and music will play throughout the evening.

A new floor will allow the club to host larger competitions for the Free State province, said Stander. “Gymnastics is a great sport from a young age and it’s not just for kids.”

Local clubs travel to this facility to compete throughout the year. The upgrade is intended to improve coaching conditions and prepare athletes for advanced skills, he added.

“It just helps us improve our club and to be able to coach the kids better.”

The upgrade aims to help coaches prepare children to learn skills and supports a club that serves more than a thousand members.

Residents or local businesses who cannot attend are encouraged to contribute by contacting the club directly.

Tickets and table bookings (for ten guests) are managed through mobile communication and direct calls to Stander.
