The Kuruman stock theft and endangered species unit successfully recovered three stolen Bonsmara cattle and arrested two suspects.

The suspects, aged 36 and 41, were caught on Wednesday (1/4) while attempting to sell the livestock at a local feedlot. They were arrested at the feedlot where primarily cattle are taken to be fed for the market before being slaughtered in Kuruman.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrived at the facility and immediately identified brand markings on the animals.

After circulating the details through the police system, investigators traced the cattle back to a cattle post in Camden Village, near Kuruman. The livestock, valued at over R40,000, has since been returned to its rightful owner.

In addition to the arrests, police confiscated a white one-ton bakkie and a trailer used to transport the stolen animals. These vehicles have been booked into the SAPS 13 store as evidence.

John Taolo Gaetsewe acting district commissioner Brig. Kenneth Baloyi praised the unit for its swift response, stating the police remain resolute in clamping down on stock theft throughout the province.

Meanwhile, four suspects, aged between 18 and 32, are expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court following a targeted operation on Tuesday (31/3).

Members of the Fezile Dabi infrastructure task team and the Fezile Dabi trio task team acted on intelligence received at approximately 16:00 regarding the storage of illicit materials.

The team first raided a residence in Chris Hani, where they found two suspects, aged 18 and 28, inside a shack. They were found in possession of suspected stolen copper cables with an estimated value of R13,500.

The operation continued, where two additional men were found with suspected stolen property.

They were arrested after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for the items in their possession. All four suspects now face charges of possession of stolen copper cable and possession of suspected stolen property.
