New Beginnings appeals for rescue vehicle─── ZENANDE MPAME 11:07 Thu, 20 Aug 2026
New Beginnings Rescue Centre is appealing to companies to help it acquire a rescue vehicle to respond to animals in need.
The organisation appeals to the public to assist them to get back on the road after its rescue vehicle became stationary and inoperable. The vehicle transports injured animals to the vet, delivers hundreds of kilograms of food to hungry dogs and cats, carries kennels, blankets and bowls to families in need, and takes the team into townships where animals have no one else to help them.
The organisation says its current vehicle’s head gasket recently blew, while one of its workers’ bicycles also broke, further limiting its ability to respond to calls for assistance.
For more than 13 years, New Beginnings has travelled across Bloemfontein and surrounding communities to rescue abused, neglected and abandoned animals.
“New Beginnings’ rescue vehicle is stationary and non-operational,” said New Beginnings president Natalie Kotze. “We are reaching out to businesses or companies who would be interested in becoming our title sponsor for a brand new New Beginnings rescue vehicle.
“Every single day, we receive calls from communities asking us to assist animals in need; the lack of transport means rescue calls have to wait, outreach projects can be postponed, and animals may struggle to reach veterinary care.
“We have long hoped to replace our ageing vehicle, but limited resources have made this difficult, with donations generally directed towards the immediate needs of animals in its care.”

The organisation has called on companies to sponsor, donate or assist with acquiring a suitable vehicle. It said the vehicle does not need to be luxurious, but must be reliable enough to reach animals and communities in need.
New Beginnings has also launched a campaign to raise funds towards getting back on the road, and have encouraged members of the public to support the initiative.
“This week, our hearts were shattered when our rescue bakkie broke down, because we had to postpone an important outreach because we simply couldn't get there,” said Kotze. “Without our bakkie, animals suffer.”
