ACT councillor candidate, two members to be buried in Free State─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:30 Sat, 10 Oct 2026
Three members of the African Congress for Transformation (ACT), who died in a car accident while travelling home after the party’s manifesto launch in Welkom last week, will be laid to rest on Saturday (10/10).
Molahlehi Mokone, Mukile Luka and Josephine Mbatha were travelling from Welkom to Sasolburg when they were involved in the accident. ACT initially confirmed Mokone and Luka had died at the scene, while Mbatha succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Luka was the party’s Ward 6 councillor candidate in Metsimaholo and had committed herself to serving her community through public office, said ACT secretary-general Ntandokazi Ngoma-Mbutuma.
“The loss of Papi Matross Mokone, Mukile Daizy Luka and Josephine Mbatha has brought immense grief to their families, friends, comrades, communities and the broader ACT family. ACT extends its deepest and most sincere condolences to the families of all three departed Delas.”
“We stand with them during this difficult period and ask that their privacy and dignity be respected as they mourn their loved ones. Our thoughts also remain with the surviving member who was injured in the accident, and we wish him strength and a full recovery.”
Ngoma-Mbutuma said the three members had travelled to Welkom to participate in an important moment in the life of the organisation, but their journey home ended in tragedy.
“These Delas had travelled to Welkom to participate in an important moment in the life of our organisation. Their commitment, presence and contribution to ACT will be remembered with respect. May their souls rest in eternal peace.”

Mokone, who was born on 13 March 1975, will be laid to rest following a funeral service scheduled to take place from 07:00 to 09:00 at 9078 Mandela Location in Tumahole, Parys. Luka and Mbatha will have a joint funeral service at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Centre in Sasolburg from 08:00 to 11:00.
