Heilbron and surrounding farming areas are set to become part of Metsimaholo municipality after the 4 November local government elections.

The transition follows the re-determination of municipal boundaries, which will see the areas currently administered by Ngwathe municipality incorporated into Metsimaholo, which includes Sasolburg, Deneysville, Oranjeville, Viljoensdrift and surrounding farming communities.

Metsimaholo spokesperson Gino Albert said the two municipalities had established technical and administrative workstreams to implement the necessary transitional measures in line with legislative and administrative requirements.

The process aims to minimise disruptions to communities and ensure continuity in essential municipal services.

“For the residents of Heilbron, Phiritona, and the affected surrounding areas, the transition will naturally bring questions about municipal services, billing, infrastructure, municipal offices, community facilities, ward arrangements and other matters relating to local government.”

Albert said these concerns were being considered as part of the transition planning, with the municipality prioritising clear, accurate and timely communication about the implications of the boundary change.

“Both municipalities recognise that clear communication will be critical to ensuring that communities understand the changes and know where to obtain reliable information. Residents will therefore need to be kept informed about the implementation process, the allocation of municipal responsibilities, changes to administrative arrangements, and the functioning of the new municipal structures following the elections.”

The transition is expected to affect how municipal responsibilities and administrative arrangements are managed in Heilbron, Phiritona and the surrounding areas once the new boundaries take effect.

Albert said 4 November would mark an important new chapter in Heilbron’s local government history.

With preparations already underway, the two municipalities are working together to ensure that Heilbron’s incorporation into Metsimaholo is implemented in a structured manner, with communities kept informed and essential municipal services maintained throughout the process.
