Calm and Collected – Abrahams eager for Knights debut─── MORGAN PIEK 11:01 Wed, 01 Oct 2025

The Knights’ new signing, Cole Abrahams, could make his debut on Thursday as the team gets their 2025/26 domestic season underway in Bloemfontein.
The Knights will host the Eastern Storm in Division 2 of the CSA 4-Day Series, with both Abrahams and Ruan Haasbroek in line to make their season debuts. Abrahams told OFM Sport that his short time in Bloemfontein has been great, and now it’s just a matter of getting down to business and doing what he loves.
“The adjustment has been really good, to be honest. Coming from a slightly smaller union, it’s been a bit of a change, especially around the expectations within the group,” said the lanky batter.
“But the environment and the culture at the Knights are really impressive, and it’s easy to feel part of it. Everyone is ready to get going. We all know the big objective ahead of us, but it’s important to take each game as it comes.
“Every match is a big game, and that’s just the nature of Division 2 cricket – you play every game like it’s a final, and hopefully you come out on the right side.”
While Abrahams is one of the new faces at the Knights, the team already boasts some serious gun cricketers, including the likes of Jacques Snyman, Malusi Siboto, and Dane Piedt. But Abrahams stressed that it’s a team effort, and to counter the in-form Storm, it’s all about putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

“It’s about forming the puzzle and putting all the pieces together as one collective,” said Abrahams. “We’ve got some big players, but it’s about how we combine our strengths. Ultimately, that’s what will help us come out on top.”
When it comes to his personal goals for the 2025/26 season, Abrahams said cricket is ultimately a team sport, and his focus is on supporting the team and contributing to its success. “For me, it’s about contributing positively to the group, making sure we reach our end goal.
“If I do well, the team does well. So it’s more about the team than myself, but I know that if I perform, I can put the team in a strong position. My main aim is just to add value wherever I can.”
Coach JP Triegaardt, in turn, told OFM Sport that he has very high hopes for Abrahams, a player he describes as one with a very positive and calming demeanour. “Cole brings a lot of calmness – that’s just his personality,” Triegaardt added.
“It shows in his batting, and it’s a real asset. He has proper technique, which is crucial in four-day cricket. You need players who understand their game and the nuances of cricket, and he definitely fits that profile.
“I also feel he balances the energy in the change room. We have a lot of energetic guys, some of them a bit wild-headed, and Cole brings a calm presence, especially in a batting lineup that can face pressure. He’ll be an important stabilising influence this season, and I hope he has a great campaign.”
The first ball of the season opener between the Knights and the Storm at the Mangaung Oval is scheduled for 10:00 on Thursday.
