Cape Town - A 70-year-old woman who was hit by a train near Athlone station on Thursday has died, her family said on Friday.
Susan Smith died in hospital hours after being admitted. She was found conscious, but in a critical condition on the train tracks on Thursday morning.
Paramedics reported that the woman had been walking across the tracks when she was hit.
Both her legs were amputated below the knees and both arms below the elbows.
Police spokesperson, Constable Noloyiso Rwexana, said a case had yet to be registered.
