Virginia - Welkom graveyard murderer, Maartens van der Merwe has been sentenced to life imprisonment plus an extra 15 years for the murder, robbery and mutilation of Michael Van Eck at a Welkom cemetery in April 2011.
Judge Ian van der Merwe ruled in the Virginia circuit court that Van der Merwe serve life for the murder, ten years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and five years for mutilation of a corpse.
Van Ecks mother, Henriëtte physically assaulted Van der Merwe as he left the dock.
