Hartebeespoort - Joe McGluwa was elected as the new leader of the Democratic Alliance in the North West Province Saturday during the party's provincial congress.
The proceedings were concluded without any serious incidents, and no re-counts of ballots were necessary.
McGluwa, originally from Alabama in Klerksdorp, takes over from Chris Hattingh, who served as provincial leader for the past 16 years.
In his acceptance speech McGluwa called Winston Rabotapi a worthy opponent, and thanked Chris Hattingh for laying the groundwork for him to take the reins.
