Agri Potchefstroom chairperson, Jannie Keet, says Koos van der Leeuw, a member of Agri Northwest, was airlifted by emergency services shortly after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was breathing normally at the time. 

Keet says it is a sad day for the community as another farmer was a victim of crime in South Africa.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Pelonomi Makau, says a manhunt has been launched for four men driving a blue Subaru. She says Van der Leeuw  accompanied by his wife were at the abattoir to meet a man from Krugersdorp.

They allegedly met every week for a cash transaction. According to her one of the robbers approached the Krugersdorp-man and demanded money. Four shots were allegedly fired at Van der Leeuw.

Makau says the robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone. Police are investigation a case of murder and robbery.
