NW municipal manager's qualifications under scrutiny | News Article

Bloemhof - The appointment of the municipal manager of the Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality in North West – which includes Bloemhof and Christiana – is under investigation.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Pravin Gordhan said in response to a written question by the Democratic Alliance that he has requested the MEC for Local Government in North West, Collen Maine, to investigate the appointment of Ndoda Mgengo. He said the scope of the investigation includes an evaluation of Mgengo’s qualifications.

DA MP Kevin Mileham asked Gordhan if Mgengo’s qualifications match the minimum qualification required for municipal managers and on what salary scale he was appointed.

Gordhan said Mgengo – who was appointed earlier this year – is receiving a salary of more than R970 000 per year. He said after the investigation is concluded Maine will submit a formal report to his department.
